No More Mac 'n Cheese

A year or so ago the girls took me around to show me some "yellow" front doors...yellow doors that really stood out and made great curb appeal for the house. BUT I don't think our Mac 'n Cheese yellow (as middle daughter calls our doors) was the color they had in mind.

Originally, when we bought the house the doors were a orange/red with dark blue but not navy blue shutters (hard to tell in the picture).

Not bad but decided a fresh coat was in order. For now we left the shutters alone but painted the doors.

I didn't think this looked bad...kind of cheery. THEN...

Daughters (oldest and middle) were coming for a visit. Jessica always gets into projects and Betsy wanted to do a project. SO... we thought simple...uncomplicated...let's just paint the front doors. Note: This was Betsy's first visit to this house and she said the doors were the color of Mac 'n Cheese (hence the title). Didn't really like them. We also thought we would have time to paint the inside of the doors a milk chocolate brown (same color as accent wall in living room). Um... No...that didn't happen. Here is what happened.

Jessica thought we should sand the doors for better adhesion, sounds logical and would make a better more smoother finish. When she started sanding (with the sander) she saw layers upon layers of paint from previous painting of the other owners. SO...off came the doors and stripper applied. NOW this involved 2 son in-laws and 1 husband who originally were not part of this project plan.

Betsy applying the stripper. The son in-laws did a lot of scrapping, sanding and applying paint thinner to make sure the doors were as clean as possible. Great job everyone. (Temps were in the 90's during all this).

Apparently while I was cooking or whatever, Jessica decided to get down all 7 pairs of shutters, clean them and we were going to paint them black.

What us girls thought would take a few hours ended up being a two day/night project. NO KIDDING!
This is what the door way looked like for two nights...only plastic.

NOW the results of much HARD work.... (drum roll)

New Dill Weed colored front doors and black shutters. Yeah! Booyah! Awesome! Whoot Whoot!

Betsy put together these two wreaths for me...here's a closer look at them.

Shiny hardware that got a face lift

A new umbrella for the deck table

And all husband wanted to get done this past weekend was putting Rust Bullet on the table and getting it painted black before the kids came.

So a HUGE "THANK YOU" to our girls who love projects, son in-laws who go along with the ideas the girls think up and a husband who goes with the flow. All of this looks so awesome.

Should I tell them there is flooring to be laid, a kitchen remodel, a master bath remodel and a basement workroom in the future? Nah. We'll just wait until they say they want another project.

Don't you love it when what you think will be a small project turns into days? But it was totally worth it. That new door color is so fresh and fun and the shutters look totally awesome too! What a great family project!!
