Here is our front door...duh... but my problem lies with that little bench.
I had the bench in the garage by the door going into the house and on a whim I stuck it here, do you think it should stay there AND do you think I should paint the bench and birdhouse different then what it is? That isn't the only question, girls.

What color if I were to change the bench and birdhouse?
We decided that as long as it was raining (steady now for about 3 days and continuing) that we should power wash the front porch since last weekend I scraped the rails to paint; here is Jay doing his "thing." That "thing" is so powerful that I opted to take the pictures from the living room for fear I would get blown off the porch and soaked.
Here is a picture of the front of our house. I don't know if you can tell that our shutters are dark green but over these past 3 years they have faded. Here is the BEFORE.
And here is the AFTER in a satin black. Can ya tell the difference? Does it look better?

I am probably not the person to answer home dec questions...haha! But...here is what I think...I LOVE the black shutters. Definitely notice the difference and love the way they look. I think the bench would look cute black and the bird house the same color as your house. But...I am not a big decorator person...those are just my thoughts. I will be interested to see what others have to say. :)
I think that the black shutters look really good. They make your house "pop." I do think you sould paint the bench and birdhouse. I think Sarah has a good idea about painting the bench black. The bridhouse could be the same green as your house, or what about a red/burgundy color just for a little something different? Maybe make the birdhouse roof the same color as your porch trim.
I just happened upon your blog, and enjoyed looking at the change in the front of your home. The black shutters look great! My opinion would be to paint the bench black too........ I didn't see the bird house.

I LOVE the newly painted shutters. They really make a difference. As far as the bench, I would live with it for awhile before you decide on the paint color. I have a bench by my front door and I'm wondering the same thing. My Aunt, the decorating diva, said to leave it for awhile before I decide. So that what I'm going to do. Happy weekend!
Your black satin on the shutters looks wonderful. As for the bench, have you selected any colors? any black paint left over to try on the bench? could be a match!
