It's All Fun and Games Until the Moving Truck Tips Over

Hello! This is Jessica. I have taken over my Mom's blog today to show you how we spent our Thanksgiving vacation. Yesterday she told you all about it, today you get to see some pictures.

I didn't think to pull out the camera at all while we were loading things up in Georgia. Frankly there really wasn't time. It was just lift one VERY heavy piece of furniture and get it into the truck after another. Unless of course we were searching for a "something that is only this big by this big to stuff in this tiny crevice right here." Which is just how my Dad packs and repacks things.

You know, so in the event that the moving truck gets hit by a train nothing will move.

Anyhow, you will just have to trust me when I say there were lots of boxes, lots of furniture, several choice words and a whole lot of man power that got the job done on Thursday and Friday morning.

When we finally got to Alabama around dinner time on Friday someone came up with the idea of backing the 26-foot Penske truck up to the front door and setting the ramp up to go from the back of the truck right to the door. A wonderful idea in theory; especially since several things were so large they could only go through the front door and there were lots of steps leading to that particular door.

See here for yourself:

The problem was that the ground isn't exactly even on that part of the property. Every time we would go out to unload something the truck seemed to lean a little more to the right. This kept going until Dad was standing in the back and actually heard the truck creak as it leaned even more. That was the point when the truck was promptly moved back to the driveway.

I took a picture of the rut left behind in the yard, but it is hard to see just how deep it really was. You will have to take my word on it. The Penske was sinking.

My sister, Betsy, was all too happy to help with the move, as well as the set up and cleaning that came along with it. Or maybe she was on a high from all the awesome Black Friday deals she had scored 17 hours before:

By the time we loaded up to leave on Sunday the house was in pretty good order:
The best sign of a successful move? The empty space in the garage that is big enough to fit the car (after you move the hand cart and blue tub anyhow):
Look how happy everyone is to finally be living back under one roof together:
Alright, Dad actually looks really grumpy. It isn't anything personal. What you can't see is the bluetooth that is in his ear, where a several hours long conference call was going on. No joke, he spent HOURS UPON HOURS on conference calls with his work all weekend. How he was able to listen to everything AND participate in the conversation AND move everything is beyond me.

Since no post I write is ever complete without at least one photo of Mabry, here you go:

This was definitely the most hectic, stressful, sleep depriving Thanksgiving we have ever had. I think it is safe to say we would all do it again if we had to, because after all the important part was we were able to be together.
Enjoy the rest of your week!

Welcome to Alabama Cheri! We ate at Cracker Barrel too on Thanksgiving....I'm thinking that's the way to go! No cooking or cleaning, just lots of eating.

We'll have to plan our get together sometime after Christmas. Try and get some rest between unpacking but from the looks of it, you've got a real good handle on that already!
